Housing Options
It is our goal to minimize the worry and distress you may be feeling as you prepare to search for a new home for a senior who is unable to stay in his or her own home. Our Gerontologist will meet with you and your loved one to assess the appropriate level of care based on medical conditions, mental capacity, mobility, and overall needs. The table below provides a snapshot of your housing options.
| Housing Type | Average Cost | Housing Description |
|---|---|---|
| Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) | $2,000* to $3,500/month** | Licensed by the State of California, residential care facilities offer personal care in a home-like atmosphere. Some care homes specialize in providing more one-on-one attention to residents with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, or frail seniors with physical limitations. They also help with bathing, dressing, incontinence care, medications, and meals. Some may provide transportation services. |
| Multi-Level Care Facility | $2,800 to $6,000/month** | Licensed by the State of California, a multi-level care facility allows a senior to remain at one facility for a long period of time. The level of care may be increased or decreased, as the elder’s needs change, without the disruption of relocating to another facility. They often provide all types of care, which may include independent living, assisted living (see below), and Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. |
| Standard Assisted Living | $1,400* to $3,000/month | Licensed by the State of California, assisted living communities provide 24-hour care to high functioning residents requiring assistance with medication management, bathing, dressing, housekeeping, laundry, and transportation. All communities also have activity programs. |
| Retirement Communities | $1,100 to $3,500/month | A retirement community is for more independent and active seniors who may be somewhat frail or socially isolated but do not need 24-hour supervision. Each community is unique in what they offer. Services include meals, transportation, housekeeping, and social activities. Some offer Assisted Living and Dementia Care on site as well. |
*Prices are based on single occupancy and level of care.
**Includes Alzheimer’s/Dementia rates and hospice care.
